Welcome Home: Where Nature’s Most Creative Creatures Dwell

PreS-Gr 1–This is a fanciful and creative picture book highlighting animal homes. On one spread, a single sentence introduces an animal and the name of its home. For example, beavers live in lodges. That spread has a lush illustration of beavers in their lodge. The next spread has no words but a full double-page illustration, with lots of detail, showing the animal living in the realistic definition of their home. A family of lions are shown living in a human den, complete with fireplace, floor to ceiling bookshelves—with library stairs—and comfy furniture. The illustrations are realistic, as long as you realize that lions don’t live in human houses with dens. According to the verso, they were created with sketches, mono prints for background textures, and built digitally. Most of them are in soft earth tones with details that will fascinate young readers. The title ends with a double page of fun animal facts.
