2021 Carle Honors Recipients Announced

This year's Carle Honors will celebrate illustrator Raúl Colón and others who have made a positive impact on children's books. The September ceremony and fundraising auction will be virtual.

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art has announced the 2021 honorees for the annual Carle Honors, which celebrates individuals and organizations for their work in children's books.

Eric Carle butterfly illustrationThe honorees are: illustrator Raúl Colón (artist); Every Child a Reader, represented by Carl Lennertz (angel); rare and collectible children's book dealers Dennis M. V. David and Justin G. Schiller (bridge); and children's book publisher Patricia Aldana (mentor). 

The 2021 Carle Honors Art Auction includes work by artists R.W. Alley, Selina Alko, Cynthia Alonso, Lisa Brown, Ashley Bryan, Eric Carle, Raúl Colón, Mike Curato, Laura Freeman, Michaela Goade, E.B. Goodale, Kiku Hughes, Gordon C. James, Julia Kuo, Arnold Lobel, Petra Mathers, Roxie Munro, Greg Pizzoli, Amber Ren, Maurice Sendak, Simms Taback, Leonard Weisgard, Rosemary Wells, Mo Willems, Dan Yaccarino, and Ed Young.

This year, the gala and auction will be virtual. Registration is free and open to everyone for the September 23 event. The ceremony will feature poet Amanda Gorman reading from her debut picture book, Change Sings; a tribute to the late Eric Carle; and awards introduced by children's literature historian Leonard S. Marcus.
