Gr 3–5—Brimming with fun facts, great pictures, and holiday celebration ideas, this calendar journal is an eye-catching offering. Each day contains a fun fact or activity, and there's plenty of amusing content, relating to food, history, animals, and other trivia. For instance, readers are informed that October 7 is National Popcorn Poppin' Day and that centuries ago, popcorn was commonly eaten for breakfast. On September 9, kids are told that "California, which became a U.S. state on this date in 1850, is likely named after Calafia, a mythical warrior queen." The information is entertaining, and the design is charming. However, readers are invited to write in responses to questions or draw their own pictures, making it less than ideal for most library collections.—Cynde Suite, Bartow County Library System, Adairsville, GA
